Pots and Pans

Shyguy playing in the pots and pans cupboard. Ah, so young but already so wise to realize that behind every door is a world of interesting possibilities. Poor kids, no toys so they have to play with pots and pans for entertainment (read with much sarcasm). This reminds me of a story I would like to share with you . . .When bub was younger and our only child at the time, we only had one cupboard "safety" lock. I awoke one weekend morning to find him in the refrigerator helping himself . . . and the floor and the fridge to some chocolate syrup. What a mess. We quickly purchased our first and only "safety" lock. Well, that was until Shyguy came along.

I don't know if its all the added work having two kids vs. one, or that your splitting your attention between two, but we have not been able to keep Shyguy out of our cupboards. Its not only the cupboards as you will see in the following photos. He pretty much opens anything and pushes any buttons. The following "safety" items had been added since Shyguy started . . . well, moving. I keep putting safety in quotes, because we really use these locks for keeping kids out of the cupboards and keeping our sanity vs. protection.

Two locks in this photo, one on the skinny cupboard and one on that drawer under the stove where we store our baking pans. And no, I don't still have Christmas stuff up in the house. I actually took these photos awhile ago with this post in mind, but have been . . . well, too lazy to get around to doing it.

The lock on the cupboard under the sink. Actually this one should have been up before Shyguy, this cupboard has some cleaning detergents in it and other chemicals, but again, Bub never got into stuff.

The spongebob cup duct taped over the computer on/off button so Shyguy doesn't turn the computer off on me when I'm saving a file or posting a long post with lots of pictures.

Again, two things going on in this photo. Cupboard lock on the glass door keeping him away from the many buttons on the DVD player, VCR player (yes we still have one) and stereo. Above that you can see some duct tape over a black thing. The black thing is actually a neat little cover that is velcro'd to the TV that covers up the on/off, volume and channel buttons on the TV. It is actually transparent so you can still use the remote to turn the TV on/off, etc. It worked for awhile, however, Shyguy at some point got stronger than velcro and he'd pull the cover off and turn off the TV anyway. So, the duct tape was added. Looks a little excessive on the duct tape, but imagine what happens when Bub is halfway through an episode of Spongebob and Shyguy goes and turns the TV off on him. So versus running to the ER every five minutes from an all out "brother brawl" we added the duct tape.

And that's it folks, just remember if your over having dinner at our house and find a matchbox car in your soup, at least know that we tried.
